Critiques from Amber

Critiques from Recital hour 8-29-2013

1. Sarah Brenay
B. Way into chest, support inconsistent.
I. In tune
T. Vascilates between pretty pingy ringy upper range, and silky mellow lower range, Both pleasant, but varied.
D. 70% Clean
E. Not in my face, but I get it. I get the emotion and stuff that goes with it.
O. The difference between ranges is slightly distracting. However the emotional connection/acting was consistent enough to make up for it for an overall pleasant effect.

2. Sarah Boucher
B. Seems shallow and in the chest.
I. in tune
T. Sweet, relaxed, heady, focused.
D. 90% clean
E. Appropriate to the mood and tone of the piece. Actions properly applied but not too overdone for a recital setting.
O. Consistent, easy to enjoy, no distractions or nervous ticks. Alignment of posture really REALLY nice from my angle of view.

3. Taylee Beckstead
B. Nice and low, seemed full
I. Slight sharp on a very few places, otherwise good
T. clear, confident, focused, melodious, warm
D. 90% clean
E. Excellent and entertaining
O. Full and engaging.... I know this song and it's translation VERY WELL. Excellent and appropriate emotion and portrayal of the situation.

4. Mariah Boyer
B. Decently low and seemed full
I. Slightly, very slightly pitchy
T. Deep, ping, rich and bright balance, High tones ring more than they are mellow.
D. 75% clean
E. Good, but it looks like nerves are holding her back
O. Pleasant, but kind of stiff. For a Freshman performance at the very first recital full of nerves, this was pretty amazing.

5. Carolee Beck
B. Chesty, really into the chest
I. In tune
T. Chesty, sultry, inflected, Consistant
D. 90% clean
E. Sultry and confident. Very appropriate for song and genre
O. That took guts. Confidence was inspiring.

6. Emily Cottam
B. A Little in the chest, bti otherwise undetectable
I. Only very slightly pitchy (Might be just my way of hearing the vibrato)
T. Deep, rich, fluttery vibrato, slight edge, insecure.
D. 70% clean
E. Robotic, Stiff
O. There's a lot of nice stuff here. I can't wait to see what happens when this on embraces her inner diva (ie; becomes much more comfortable being herself in front of us).

7. Caitlin Craig
B. A little shallow
I. in tune
T. Light, fluty, flutter, young
D. 80% clean
E. Right on. Always excels at this
O. Caitlin could just stand there and act her way though a whole piece without singing a note and would still be entertaining; We'd still know the whole story of the song.

8. Laura Berg
B. In chest
I. in tune
T Bright, burnished, slightly constricted,
D 60% clean
E. Mostly on target with only a few nervous ticks in the hands.
O. Generally enjoyable, and seemed heartfelt. There is a serious rise in confidence from when she sang last (pre- mission).
