Tomorrow is my supervised lesson with Cindy, and I want to
continue working on jaw, neck and shoulder tension with Gavin. I really liked the exercises I did last
week:
[baaaaa]
54321 upside down, dangling the neck
[baaaa
i] 53421 focusing on dropping the jaw for both vowels
[jajajajaja]
54321, focusing on dropping the jaw for each and every note
I realized that the upside down thing is really helping his
neck release, so I think we need to do a lot of that throughout the lesson
today. I just need to make sure
that we take breaks, because I don’t want him to get lightheaded. I might also add that while upside down,
he needs to swing his arms back and forth. I want to try some gorilla-like swinging, dancing, to get
him all loosened up. I need to up
the ante with releasing his body.
I
want to make sure his tongue isn’t retracting as well, so I think I’ll add some
[u] vowel today, but make sure his jaw is dropped. If he can’t drop his jaw while doing [u], I’ll try [o]. Just doing [a] all the time might not
be a good idea.
We’ll
see how it goes!
