Caitlin Craig Listening assignment #5

Video 1: Katherine Jenkins- Nessun Dorma.

Because her sound is pressed and wobbly, as a voice teacher I would try to redirect her thinking of eliciting pitch with think let trust, I would also try to help her with feeling the air move more freely. And lastly, I would also try to help her with her breathing technique because she does a weird hiccup-like clavicular breath a lot, which I think puts a lot of pressure on her VF's, if she was breathing lower, and had more release in her breath, she wouldn't have to recover so painfully every time she needed air.

Video # 2: Marissa- Sebben, crudele

I would first correct her posture, so that she would be able to breath more freely, and feel happy/upright as well. She has her shoulders curled in, her legs are propping her up, and because of that there isn't much room for her ribs to expand and for the diaphragm to contract. I think this stiff posture is what is causing a lot of the aspirate sound, and it also may be that she is a young singer. I would try to help her find the release of a happier posture, help her to have positive experiences with the breath moving more freely, and have her emote, because I think that might help her find more connection to that lower breath.
