Sarah Brenay - Emma Wright - Lesson Plan 3/1/14

I want to discuss the breathing mechanism in more depth. I want her to understand that breathing is not about sucking in air, it's about manipulating the amount of space inside the lungs. Breath just happens when the space is created! We will do the exercises described in our book where you inhale for 4, suspend for 4, exhale for 4, and suspend for 4. Then we can try Cindy's exercise where you inhale and exhale after a specific number of seconds.
Warm Ups:
-[u] to [a] starting with owl hooting to make sure we're getting the right sound.
-[bi di bi di bi] stopping and holding the posture of [b] before singing.
-Check for tongue position. I will have her sing descending scales on each vowel and look where the tip of her tongue is. If I notice that it is pulling back for some things I will have her hold her tongue to feel that tongue, and then help her find a released position. I think we can find it by figuring out where the tongue is while speaking and making in more like that. Also the [ing ing ing] stuff will help.
I will tell her two work on 3 basic things daily with breaks in between practice.
-basic thing 1: light [u] to [a]
-basic thing 2: breathing exercise
-basic thing 3: [ni ne na no nu] tongue position checks.
Sight Reading if there's time.
Sing some rep if there's time.
Tell her about the next in class lesson time!
Schedule a lesson time with Cindy.

NEXT week I want to do posture body mapping in more detail. What I want to do is have her find really balanced posture and then show her the picture of the 6 points of balance in Malde. Then I'll ask her what was different about what she was doing, and then we can discuss why.
