Sarah Boucher Lesson Summary 3/3

Vocalizations: (We planned to run through my whole recital in lessons today so I came fairly warmed up) two-toe, primal uh li-le-la-lo-lu, so (primal to sung) 1-3-5-1-5-3-1
Helpful vocalizations: The primal so to sung so, was really helpful today. It got me to relax and let the sound flow out. It helped me let go of tensing.
Music worked on: We tried to go through all my recital music, we didn't get through it all though. There were four pieces we didn't get through that being said it was pretty amazing that we got through as much as we did.
Take aways: I get in my head too much. After singing the Mozart and getting feedback from Laurie I started thinking way too much and was not enjoy the music. After that I did things to take my mind off of the singing and to let my body be loose. I played with a tennis ball, pulled a exercise band, bounced on the exercise ball and just let the sound happen. This helped a ton, and toward the end of the lesson I was feeling much more free because I was just letting the sound happen. I need to approach my recital with the attitude that "it is gonna be fun!" not stressing. Singing is not fun, if I overthink....and I don't sound good when I over think hahaha!
Impact on weekly practice: Laurie pointed out my jaw a lot...cause it is always a problem for me so this week I want to spend time before I got to bed each night speaking the text of one of my sets. I want to focus on that "dumb jaw" feeling. I think this will help me figure out where I am jutting it forward and which words I need to watch out for. I also need to just keep drilling memorization, and really study the music as far as dynamics go. The pieces are almost learned and memorized now is the time to make them mean something!
Goals for next week: Well next week is spring break but the next week is my recital preview! My goal is to be so prepared for my recital preview that I can relax a bit (as much as possible in that situation!) and really perform the music! I don't want to give a boring recital preview and I don't want to only be thinking about my singing. I want to emote and give the music more depth and meaning!
