Taylee. Summary: As demonstrated by Tom Martinez, you must have a personal connection with each student individually. Then you need to see what level of skill is already there, so that you can build up from there. After you are familiar with the current ability, you must plan and organize a specific program for that student. But it doesn't end there, you must continue to learn about them. You have to find out why they are who they are. By understanding their background, you can continue to to adapt your lessons to be more individually specific. A good teacher, works themselves out of a job, but until then they must be someone the student can rely upon.
Key Concepts: "A teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary." Knowing about their ability is good, knowing them is better. Don't hide anything, because even weakness are important to know about.
Key Terms: Tactile, personification, image, physical.
Making Connections: I'm teaching my sister currently. The first lesson was a little rough, neither one of us know how to deal with each other in the context. The next lesson was much better. We found a connection as teacher and student, but I was able to draw upon our relationship outside of that.
