Chapter Summary: When picking two men for the number NFL draft pick, college coach Tom Martinez highly recommends JaMarcus Russell because of the connection they once shared. Within the first 30 seconds of meeting Russell, Tom made a human connection that determined how their time training was going to be and how easy or difficult coaching was going to turn out. By making this connection, the established and bridge of of trust and respect. Tom was focus on accessing Russlells learning process through the element of simplicity; why was Russell working so hard ? Who was he doing it for ? As soon as Tom figured out that Russell was doing all this hard work for himself, Tom was able to count of Russell's state of mind.

Connection: I appreciate the teachers that I've had and have who push me to want to do better. I think its so important to have mentors that encourage us because sometimes you can lose the " why am I doing this?" I think once we start to understand that hard work ethic is for us and not the people around us life would be stressful (the bad kind). My favorite part about this chapter was when Tom said " He needs mentoring. He needs consistency. He needs somebody". Having someone that can identify was a students needs is a great teacher.
