Chapter summary: This chapter illustrated an example of a master coach. Tom Martinez was a master coach because of his abilities ascribed in this chapter and described in previous chapters. This chapter made more tangible the principles of: recognizing the needs of pupils, motivation, and giving helpful feedback. One can also learn from this chapter that connection with pupils is essential. In fact, Martinez went so far as to compare this connection to romance.
