Sam Meredith Master Class 9/24

Emily Floyd-The breathing started out good during this performance, but some problems arose as the piece continued. I noticed I was able to hear a couple of the breaths and there were some issues with the tone that I think were possibly breath related. The intonation was mostly good, but there was one rough transition between two vowels, which seemed to affect the tone slightly. I think just relaxing more and not worrying about the big interval so much will fix that problem. I think Emily has a very nice, full timbre to her voice when she really brings out its full potential. There were some spots in the upper register, however, where the timbre became slightly hoarse. This might be related to breath or maybe she is just lifting and involving the larynx. I thought the diction was mostly good, but I thought that there were some places where she had a little trouble keeping the vowel honest. The expressiveness was fine the first time, but I thought it really improved after she listened to the feedback from Thomas. I think she did a good job making her diction clearer and adding more emotion to the piece as per his suggestions. I think there were many good things to be said about the first performance, but after those adjustments were made I think it turned out quite well.
Sarah Boucher-I thought the breathing here was pretty good. It improved when she made the adjustment of breathing in rhythm, but overall I thought she did a good job of making the breaths silent and efficient. Her intonation was good mostly, but there are a couple of difficult downward jumps that created some problems in this area. I love the sound of Sarah's voice. In her upper register it's very energetic. It does sound a little bit forced in the lower register, though, so some work could be done two even those two things out. There were a couple of problems with the diction, but for the most part it was fine. I thought she did a great job putting the proper emotion into this piece. You could tell that she understands the meaning of the words by the way she sang them. I also think she did nice work adapting to the suggestions of Thomas. She's got a lot of great qualities to her voice and many of them were present during this performance.
Sarah Low-I didn't really notice any problems with the breathing in this performance. All of the notes seemed to have pretty good support, which can be difficult to achieve in a piece like this one. I think she did a great job keeping good intonation in spite of the fact that the music does a lot of moving. She has a very free timbre to her voice, which I enjoyed. It was a little breathy at times, but that improved when she sang it again after Thomas told her to add some more energy to the performance. She did a great job heeding his advice. The diction was very good for the most part. She did a good job articulating most of the vowels, but there was one vowel (I think the word was 'clap') that I think could stand to be just a bit brighter. The expression was good especially after working with Thomas. I thought she did a wonderful job. This song seems to fit her voice very well.
