Taylee. Summary: The drive to see improvement and to get better often get in the way of the talent that we have already built mylenated. By trying to make things happen in our body, we create unnecessary tension in our body. Then sensing tension in the body spurs us into trying to control things even more, and it turns into a viscous cycle. Another result of forcing or controlling our body to do things is we tend to lose the joy of expressing ourselves through our talent.
Key Concepts: We need to be brave enough to allow ourselves to be vulnerable. We build skill, and allow it to happen.
Key Terms: Childlike enthusiasm.
Making Connections: I have heard the phrase "Don't make sound, let sound happen." from Brianna in my lessons, more times than I can count. The concept makes sense in theory, and I've experienced the sensation before, but how do you try to let go, when the point is to not "try to do" anything? But those moments when I have felt myself completely let go are exquisite. The feeling that I had when everything was right, was almost out of body. I couldn't believe I was singing! For lack of a better way to say it, those moments felt out of body. Yes, I was singing, but I couldn't feel myself doing it, I just was.
