Deep practice requires commitment and a recommitment every time you decide to do it. that commitment occurs only after sufficient motivation is present. Motivation gives you the drive and energy needed to follow through with what you've promised yourself that you would do. it takes a lot of energy to say nope I didn't like the feel of that gotta start that part over and get it right after not finding the right way consistently after several tries. Ignition supplies that motivation and can be found in the most unlikely of places. Ignition can come in the form of seeing others succeed and the steps that they took to get where they are. We try to follow the patterns we see in others that have achieved what we perceive that we want. Sometimes even unknowingly, we mimic those around us. Ignition can come from small ideas like," I'm not safe in this state", I'm behind", and "I want to be like that when I grow up". these ideas take hold of us and cause us to seek out deep practice as a solution to our perceived problems or goals. Doing something unique and exclusive can also give us a reason to ignite. This gives them a sense that what they are doing is worthwhile and special. Doing something that will add to our future acceptance in a group is another big motivating factor. These ideas can take hold of us and give us the passion but it may not sustain our motivation to deep practice day after long grueling day of little results. Sometimes you need verbal cues such as praise (example: what you've been doing has been working, now work on this) or criticism and instruction (example: you really need to work harder. Or , You could spend more time on this)
Key Concepts:
Talents need deep practice and deep practice needs tons and tons of energy.
Cues for ignition(primal, verbal, visual, etc.) give out a lot of energy.
Key Words:
Ignition
Primal Cue
Connections:
It is a good thing that I feel like I am miles behind everybody as long as I use it to motivate and not discourage deep practice.
Like in the movie inception a small idea can entirely change the way some one views their reality and the world. Taking hold of an idea that I can be like someone successful, or be excepted in this group or catch up to these people who have made extraordinary achievements if I just practice So Deeply and effectively can change everything that person will be headed for. Believing that stress is good for you, believing that somebody is on your side no matter what you do, believing that there is something more after death, makes life so much more meaningful and worth it to work hard now, and learn all that you can now. This also reminds me of Kelly Clarkston's song What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger.
If you believe that stress can build you up that is what's going to happen. If you don't die it goes on to your list of things that you have lived through. Then you can always ask yourself "Is this worse than that was?"
