Sarah Boucher Lesson Summary 9/13
I felt prepared for this weeks lesson. Laurie and I had made goals about what I wanted to accomplish for the week (most of it was deciding on rep), so I knew exactly what I had to have ready. I had enough time to warm up and stretch and get my energy up before my lesson.
Although we still had a lot of rep things to talk about we began by warming up and talking about what I feel are my biggest problems in my voice are. I was feeling a little strange from all the weather changes and so we focused a lot on keeping my larynx lowered and sound light and effortless. I loved all the vocalizes she gave me, because they helped me to think of my natural sound instead of trying to control my sound with my throat. My voice felt better after those warmups than it had in days! She really stressed primal sounds, that help to lower my larynx. We did so many exercises that I had never done before. A key thing that I learned was how to find that natural sound without trying to control it by raising my larynx. We talked a lot about what is feels like when I get it right and so now I feel like I can better find it in my voice. We talked about ways to target my breathing this week as well, as I feel like that is a major problem for me. Laurie encouraged me to practice in a football played stance so I can feel when my breath is low and expanded. After that we talked rep and Laurie gave me some direction on what kind of music I should look at for next week. By next week, I am going to have at least two more song analysis sheets and we picked three songs that I should have solidly learned that we are going to look at together. I also want to focus more on not raising my larnyx, and pushing from my throat this week on the pieces I am learning.
New vocalizes:
-hum and release to an ah
-primal groan "uh" and then "oh no don't go"
-Ooh five note descending and then returning
-two toe
-primal sound "gah"
-Octave descending ooh pantomiming until the larynx wasn't raised
