Hey Cindy! I just had an idea for primal cues. Thought I'd just post it, lest I forget.
The cue I respond most often to is hearing my peers practice. When I walk down the hall and I hear a vocalist, it always makes me feel like I need to practice NOW. I find the competition more motivating than almost anything else. BUT I thought of a way we could make it cooperative too.
My idea is to form practice groups, where 2-5 students are paired up to practice at the same time. The students should be in the same grade and as close to the same skill level as possible, that way they can compete with each other and help each other out. It could be like a class you enroll in, and your required to work together as well as individually. I can't tell you how many times I've wished I had a practicing partner so that I could get more feedback. I also think this would motivate people to practice more. How often are people in the practice room when they're scheduled to be? Not too often, really. But if they were part of a team, and their absence would be NOTICED and remarked on, I think people would be more likely to show.
I don't know know if my idea is realistic, but I thought it sounded like something I would want to be involved in. Maybe it would be more workable if it were just partners? That way you would only need to coordinate two schedules. Anyway. Just an idea!
This sounds like a great idea. Let's talk about it in class tomorrow.
