Chapter Summary: You need to love coaching to become a good coach. Without this motivation, you won't want to do all that you can to help the person you're training. When the Raiders needed a new player, they turned to a coach who wasn't coaching for the fame but to truly help people achieve their goals. They knew that this Coach Martinez could recognize skill and be able to determine who would be their best choice. Coach Martinez knows how to connect with each person he coaches. He can figure out how they learn and match his coaching techniques to their needs. He explains drills in different ways while coaching to help make sure each player can understand what he is instructing. People are all unique and need to be treated that way when being coached.
Key Concepts: Good coaches love coaching and are able to connect with the person they are teaching. Coaches need to find ways to match their coaching techniques with their players' individual ways of learning.
Key Terms:
Making Connections: I need to remember that when someone is instructed to do something to help their singing, it may not always apply to my singing. Our voices are all unique. A certain exercise that may be helpful to one person, may not work as well for me, but a different exercise may be able to help my voice more and lead to the same result.
