Luke Shepherd TC Chapter 10 Summary

Chapter Summary: Master coaches love what they do and  love to see improvement in those they're coaching. What coach Martinez exemplified in this chapter is how important it is to develop that connection with those you're teaching. Master coaching isn't a hands off process where the coach has some golden nugget they can just give the student that makes them better. Coaching is very much a hands on process where the coach takes sincere interest in the student, the way the learn, think, and process information. Coach Martinez was successful with Jemarcus Russell and other people he worked with because he connected with them and tailored his coaching style to the players ideal learning style.
Key Concept: A master coach is someone who connects on a personal level with their students and knows them thoroughly enough to tailor their coaching style to meet the needs of the student's learning style.
Key Terms: Quarterback
Making Connections: I have found that the most influential and effective teachers in my life have been those who knew me well and who I knew cared genuinely for me. They never made things easy for me but challenged me, but I always wanted to meet the challenge because of the way they presented it to me and because I trusted their direction. To those teachers I am an individual, my own unique person with my own unique skill and learning style. I yearn to be one of them.
