Jaron Putnam TC Epilogue Chapter Summary

Jaron Putnam Epilogue chapter summary

Epilogue Summary:
Education: Reading takes Phonics and whole language learning. Finnish students are so smart because the country respects and trains really good teachers. Baby Einstein doesn't help kids get smarter, because they aren't firing circuits when they are watching. They are letting it all just wash over them.
Business: Good business is exactly like a giant version of the talent code. If the corporation applies all the same principles of the talent code with its employees. They build myelin just like a violinist would, and they are successful.
Psychology: If we look at social interaction as a skill to be practiced and developed, then we can understand that social awkwardness is something that can be changed. There is a psychological institution that focuses on deep practicing social skills. You can change, and become better at interacting with others.
Education: Older people can still create myelin! Old age brings the degeneration of Myelin, but you can always be building new myelin through deep practice.
Bringing it Home: Don't be blinded by the idea that your children have a predetermined set of talents. Understand that they have abilities in areas where they choose to myelinate the skill. Let them have lots of interests and see where it takes them. Help, and encourage them. Especially help them see that failure can be a good thing.

Key Concept: The idea of Myelin doesn't just apply to singing! We can apply these principles of deep practice to all areas of our life.

Key Terms:
Ignition
Master Coaching
Deep Practice
Talent Code

Making Connections:
I am excited to try and apply what I've learned through this book not only to my singing and musical skill, but also through all of the skills I use as a student. I need to think about other skills in my life the same way as I am starting to think about music.
