Jaron Putnam TC Chapter 10 Summary

Jaron Putnam Chapter 10 Summary

Chapter 10 Summary:
Another aspect of incredible teaching comes from someone's ability to: connect with a pupil, and recognize potential. Tom Martinez, a retired junior college coach, was who the Raiders turned to help decide who they should draft for their team. Martinez was able to help them decide to go with a player who seemed like a good pick, but ultimately they didn't know for sure. Martinez, in coaching, was incredible at teaching, but his first move as a coach was to establish a connection to the player. That is Martinez's genius, and the genius of other master teachers; to have an ability to look at a pupil and know how to connect with them. Once that connection is made, then great and meaningful teaching can happen.

Key Concept: Greatness in teaching isn't just about being a master at your particular discipline. Great teaching requires an ability to connect with students. Only in this way will great teaching happen.

Key Terms:
Nothing stood out…

Making Connections:
In teaching situations, I can't overlook the importance of making a connection with my student. It is so important that they feel a connection with me, that will help the learning process so much.
