Jared Daley SOHH Chapter 4

Jared Daley SOHH Chapter 4
Summary-
I loved this chapter so much. I could completely relate to it. I love the idea of inner clowns. I feel like I have too many inner clowns. It's so necessary though to have that flip. So often we get into the grind of things and push and push to the point of misery. In that state we accomplish nothing. So many music students are addicted to the heavy practice grind. We see it everyday at school. These addictions to heavy practicing just cause tension to pile upon tension, then our performances are stiff and... Tense. When we change our overdetermination to play correctly to a sense of feeling what the sound is like, the natural response is astounding. It's all about sensory awareness. It's not just useful for detecting when we are doing something wrong, but for feeling how amazing it is when it's right. we when consciously try to duplicate our success we fail. When we are aware and sensing for the problems they often don't happen.
Key Concept- There is a lot more to sensory awareness than previously thought. When we are focused on our mistakes we will make them. If we concentrate on what is happening that causes those mistakes they tend to fix themselves.
Connection- The inner clowns part was my favorite, It's so true though, often in lessons i get tenser and tenser until Cindy makes me laugh then the attempt immediately following is usually the best.
