Emily F. voice lesson 9/10

Emily F. voice lesson 9/10: I was warmed up and ready to go for my lesson. I had done some work thinking about and organizing rep so that I could discuss it with Laurie, which we did. We made some schedule changes, moving up my memorization deadline to be better prepared for my recital. I did some soft "little girl" singing on "ooh" to begin. I sang one of my favorite vocalises, alternating between "too" and "toh" on triplets, each set of triplets with the middle note a M3 above the pitch, each set descending a major scale. This is my best "high" vocalise because the ooh and oh vowels keep my larynx nice and low and the "t" keeps my tongue from retracting so much. I have noticed as I've been practicing in front of a mirror more lately, that my tongue totally goes crazy when I sing high notes! I've spent time just focusing on watching my tongue while I sing to see if I can keep it from retracting and quivering all the time. So we did a few tongue release exercises: 1)tip tucked behind the bottom teeth, the rest pushed out, singing a 1-2-3-4-5-7 up and down scale slowly; 2)"fat" tongue singing zee 1-3-5-8-5-3-1 with a repeat. We worked on a song by vocalizing a low "uhh" while listening to the melody being played. This piece is in German, with fast words, and I can see how I would try to raise my larynx with the leaps in melody and all of the lyrics. The goal for this piece is to be able to keep good open resonance while still being clear. I'm still struggling with how to get in all of the exercises and water I need, so I'm restating that as a goal, along with getting two song analyses done this week. I also need to work hard on memorization because I have six new songs to learn before my recital.
