Chapter Summary: The art of becoming a master coach seems to be a master balancing act. The myriad of skills required, listed in this chapter, need to balanced and measured to exactitude for each individual student. Ignition is the first requirement on the road to talent, so a master coach has to have a method for igniting (genuine interest in the student, emotional reinforcement, and plain love!) As ignition is happening, the methods for the next step, deep practice, need to be instilled subsequently. Master coaches do this through short snippets of error focused correction, no word out of place. The key to every step of master coaching is to tailor everything to the individual. Each student is treated differently, because each student is different.

Key Concepts: Great coaching takes exactitude, in praise, information, and timing.
Making Connections: I realized that this method can be taken in both the method of private voice instruction and choral teaching. Dr. Evans points out that successful choral rehearsals involve less talking and more on task and pointed direction. I think that as a future choral director, I can practice only conveying information, and little praise or criticism. The rehearsal will be exciting and productive that way.
