This week we started off with a release feeling during warm
up which I felt like helped me a lot because sometimes I do feel stiff in my
singing though my body may feel relaxed and energized. During the “hmm-mee” exercise (which I did enjoy
and would like to do more of) helped me to realize error detection in my sound
and more of sense of where my sound was coming from. I say this because as I was doing the
exercise mee was starting to turn
into bee. I notice that I need a lot
of focus and determination even after I have a succeeded a task because I start
to lose the energy when I don’t focus.
Not only did this exercise help with placement but also with breathing.
I learned this week that singing is the secondary source but
the yawn and breath preparation in the primary action. I didn’t realize that previously because I
though that singing was something that I had to do rather than letting it
happen with me forcing it. I start to
grasp that concept more in my own practice and taking my time to prepare to
sing rather than just singing without thinking about it first.
While singing my piece, it felt much better with the yawning
effect but then it brought up other issues that I do like the “coughing” at the
end of my phrases. This I have to admit was really frustrating for me because I
felt like I could not fix it right then and there in my lesson. But I did
notice that I was more aware of the coughing more and determined to try to fix
something that I have been doing for so long.
Overall the feeling of release, made singing feel more in my
body and freer than feeling like I was puncturing the notes. I want to continue working on how I end my
phrases more gracefully.
