We get to dependent on grueling practice sessions that make us more tired, tension filled and maybe even a little depressed. We need to lighten up and spend the right kind of energy doing the right things to get to the place that we want to be in performance. Ristad experimented teaching techniques of the Inner Game of Tennis on to string players. Teaching them simultaneously, she had them focus on a few things at a time such as the phrasing and they were able to get a sense of the changes from each other but also from the concepts brought to their attention. not new concepts entirely but concepts that were stated a different way. Verbal correction can be sufficient in some cases in others the information can be recognized as relevant and helpful but not easily applied directly.
Key Concepts:
Lighten up in practice and you'll have less tension in performance.
"trying fails; awareness cures"
Key Words:
Inner Clown
A flip
Connections:
In Yoda talk this chapter would be called "Do or do not there is no try" meaning when you say you are trying you will either do what you are trying to do or fail at it and when you focus too hard you can inhibit your progress. working to hard on something with the wrong approach will do just the opposite of what results you want.
