Sarah Brenay - VRH critiques

Sam Meredith
Has a nice rich, powerful voice, but is letting it get nasaly especially in higher range. No more nasality Sam! You're voice is too good for that. Some larger leaps tended to be a little under pitch, like between "di" and "sol" in the first measure (second maybe). The consonants are not always at pitch level, like the "m" in "mentre del..." Upper range needs more lift, needs to find a way to sing up there with more comfort. Low range is much more comfortable for you, but if you can have both than goshdangit have both! Very silent breathes, I didn't even notice them happening, which means he's not gasping or sucking in air which is good. Could have been more expressive, I got the general feel of the piece, but I want to understand the feeling behind each word, each line.

Sarah ...Lough? Low?
Strange things are happening with the face and body. I can tell this is a misguided attempt at expression, but you can't sing with movement until you learn to sing WITHOUT it. Needs to take all that movement away and learn to express with just eyes and voice. THEN add movement. But this looks like it's arbitrary. Melodious voice, light and really lovely, but deep and dry in mid-high range. Something pinching? Breathe is collapsing under her right at the onset. The intonation was good.

Neck is jutting forward, can't be comfortable. Shoulders are caved in. Gotta straighten up! Need to connect to your inner Gorilla! I'm noticing that the vibrato tends to get looser and wider at the tail ends of notes. Some notes are still vanishing, like you're pinching them off. Not enough support to get up to higher pitches at the end of phrases. I think that all of these problems would go away if you would relax your JAW and NECK! Girl. The tension there is covering up this pure, golden chocolate voice! I'd love to see these things go away so all that's left is the golden chocolate. Shoot for consistency.
