Sarah Brenay - Lesson Summary - 9/13/13

Sarah Brenay - Lesson Summary - 9/13/13
I was well prepared for this lesson, not because I improved miraculously or learned every detail about every piece, but because I came loaded with questions. I learned so much in that hour!

We went through my questions one by one: How exactly do you practice silent singing? When do you use the chest voice and why? How do you develop your head voice range so that you can choose when to go into chest voice? How can I learn to do these mellismatic phrases? How can I sing lighter so that I don't get as tired? What does it feel like to sing lighter? How do you pick what to focus on with a student? How do you help a student with problems x, y, and z? How can I develop my high notes?

And we answered all of them!!! Not that I know everything there is to know about all these things, in fact I think the more I know the more questions I have. But I know enough to make me excited for practicing this week. If anyone wants more details on any of the questions I listed, just ask me, because it would take hours to write it all down. Some key things I learned are useful vocalizes and chunking techniques, how to practice effectively without singing a note, how to practice large leaps, how to shape my mouth for high notes, and oh my gosh so many things. This is a lesson I'll be listening to all week.

By next week I want to be ready to sing Nasce al Bosco without losing energy. I want to pay special attention to my mouth shape and resonance on the "a" vowel.

New Vocalizes:
-Happy yell thing.
-yodle
-try me
