Sarah Boucher TC: Chapter 5 Summary
Chapter Summary:
Although deep practice is essential to building skill, ignition is the fuel that pushes us to deep practice. Ignition motivates us to go after a goal and work harder to achieve it. Primal cues are signals that directly motivate us and channel our energy into achieving of our goals.
Key Concepts:
"Ignition supplies the energy, while deep practice translates that energy over time into forward progress." (pg. 97)
Ignition can happen unconsciously.
Key Terms:
Primal Cues
The Scrooge Principle
Making Connections:
I liked that this chapter made me discover where my passion for music began. I realized how my role as the youngest in the family and watching my older siblings perform ignited by desire to be a great musician. It is interesting how I never had a moment where I woke up one day and decided to sing, but that unconsciously I pursued it due to this ignition. Realizing when this took place, helped to motivate more to keep pursuing my dreams.
