Sarah Boucher TC: Chapter 6 Summary

Sarah Boucher TC: Chapter 6 Summary
Chapter Summary:
Ignition brings the passion needed to pursue skill. However, one moment of ignition is not enough to keep the momentum needed to develop skill. Ignition must be a constant ongoing process, not a single event. Language in particular is essential to ignition. Praise given to students should be commenting on their effort not the final result.
Key Points:
More than one primal cue is needed for a lifetime of ignition.
Using words as a primal cue is very effective in ignition.
Successful talent hotbeds had multiple primal cues that unconsciously ignited their students.
Key Terms:
sustained ignition
Making Connections:  As a teacher, it will be so essential for me to give my students primal cues in order for them to ignite. I really liked what Coyle said about motivational language. How it is not just about telling someone "You were great!"but it is about praising the student's effort as well. This is something I hope to use in my teaching someday!
