Sarah Boucher Master Class Critiques 9/10

Sarah Boucher Master Class Critiques 9/10
Hannah Lovato: Hannah had several breaths that were very "balloon" like in her body. It was interesting because she began with "bucket" breaths and gradually relaxed into more "balloon" like breathing. Her tone on top was so free and bright, I loved listening to it. She lost that openness in her lower range. Her intonation was very good except for on sustained notes. She had a tendency to bounce while singing, I think to maybe keep her body and breathing energized? When Cindy had her work on keeping her teeth apart in her lower range by speaking the text without moving her teeth, it transferred into her singing by opening up the sound in the lower range and making it sparkle more. I think that once Hannah is able to master the open sound in her lower range with her teeth apart she will be unstoppable. I enjoyed watching how such a small change made such a big difference in the sound she was able to produce.
Taylee Beckstead: Taylee was able to release her breath in a very quiet and controlled manner. However, the rest of her breathing was audible and "bucket" like. Cindy later identified it as breathing through tensing her back muscles. The intonation was fairly good except for when the phrases reached high notes, they felt a little low. (Another thing that Cindy addressed, in which they talked about how her consonants were not spot on the pitch) Her tone was a little breathy, but I can't put my finger on why! I liked that her eyes were very focused and steady throughout the piece. I really liked the approaches that were used so help release Taylee's tension in her back and make her breath more deep, especially the motion of "gorilla" arms where you swing your arms back and forth while also maintaining an open chest. When Taylee did these exercises I felt like the breathy quality of her sound went a way and it was more free. Taylee made some good strides in this masterclass and was able to react quickly to feedback that was given.
LaeKin Burgess: Laekin's low range was very rich and resonant but her higher range seemed forced and a bit pressed. She had presence in the eyes but the body was very tight. Occasionally she would move abruptly for example one time I noticed her knee give way a bit. Her breath was audible and her phrases were not very fluid. I really liked when Cindy had her hang forward and move up in a fluid motion. This fixed the tightness of her sound, the tightness in her body, and made her breath and phrasing more fluid. I loved the changes it made to the song, it sounded more confident even though she was moving around and had an overall richer quality!
