Luke Shepherd TC Chapter 6 Summary

Chapter Summary: Ignition not only effects the person who is ignited to achieve great things, but those high achievers inconsciously inspire and give permission to those around them to do so as well, igniting them and giving them the hope of future success. On the island of Curacao the young men have developed an almost fanatical baseball culture and their little league team consistently competes in world championships against the worlds best. The spark started with one man, Andruw Jones, a native of the little island, who captured the MLB world by storm when he slammed several homeruns back to back in the worlds series. Four hundred kids from the island showed up 2 weeks later to play little league baseball because they were ignited! They saw someone just like them do something extraordinary, and after all if he could do it... why not them? Thus, a talent hotbed was born (or should we say ignited?) However, it's not just about that one moment, talent hotbeds keep the motivational fire lit through a complex series of other primal cues that keep the fire burning bright.
Key Concept: Primal cues are all around us and are essential to not only initial ignition but in keeping the motivational fire burning bright. Our fire can peter out if we don't continue to prime it.
Key Terms: The Sistine Chapel Effect
Motivational Language
Making Connections: I need to recognize that I learn in baby steps, like everyone else, and that I can't let my motivation and energy burn out because the process is slow. I can reaffirm to myself and be proud of struggle and hard work that leads to greater skill.
