Luke Shepherd TC Chapter 5 Summary
Chapter Summary: We responed to certain cues (primal cues) in our environments that inspire us to stretch ourselves and reach for our goals and ambitions. Ignition refers to the priming of our drive and passion to achieve and when combined with deep practice can propel us into building skill. Ignition is an awakening, a tiny powerful idea that tells us "that is who I want to be" or "that is what I want to become". This involves the idea that we'll be long-term committed to something. It's not just "I want X", rather it is "I want X later, so I better do Y like crazy right now." That's the kind of motivation that fuels our energy and desire to continue through the tedious deep practice that builds skills and wraps myelin.
Key Concept: Deep practice builds skill, and our motivational supply of energy and good will comes from primal cues that ignite passion and desire within us.
Key Terms: Ignition
Primal Cues
Making Connections: I can not only pinpoint experiences in my past that gave me the motivation and courage to be where I am today, but I can constantly seek out opportunities that will inspire and motivate me to continue to work hard and be better.
