Laura B - Private Lesson #3

Laura B
From my last lesson, I have been able to see improvement in my voice, My breathing had become more consistently deep and it's become easier to get my voice into the forward pingy area. This week, we worked on taking it to the next step and really nailing down the breathing, the high curved tongue, and singing in the pingy area of the voice. I was told to imagine that my body was a big exercise ball. Every time I take a breath, I inflate the ball. When I begin singing, I sit on the ball and bounce on it. Great way to visualize depth in the body. For a consistent curved tongue, I am to imagine a weight that is tied to the curve in my tongue, consistently pulling it forward. My dear little is always wanting to move back, and this should help to keep it where it needs to be. When I sang through a piece that I am working on, I at first sang through it cautiously, making sure I was not too heavy on the notes and tried to hit the high notes in the, what I thought, proper way. However, being cautious caused a lot of unnecessary tension in my vocal chords. I was then asked to sing in full voice, focusing just on keeping the sound in the pingy place. The notes all came out much smoother and clearer. This week, I'm going to work on staying in that pingy place for all of my vowels, and making sure my tongue stays nice and curved.
