Jeunee Roberts MC Critique 9.10.13

MASTER CLASS 9.10.13

Hannah Lavato

I enjoyed Hannah’s pleasant, flowery sound. I think her breathing was deep and supported, and very ballon like at most times. Sometimes there could be a little bit of bucket singing because of panic for a phrase pick up, or when the notes started to become higher in her register. I felt her intonation was accurate to my ears. I realized that she has been putting a lot of practice on her higher notes because as soon as she started to get into her higher register her whole throat and chest loosened up, which allowed her to have a full open sound. All of a sudden what Cindy has been saying about never practicing the easy things made sense. Hannah’s middle register is also full and supported but there was no need for her to think about it and refine her middle register model. Thanks Hannah! Your performance has helped me a lot.As soon as Cindy explained her never closing her teeth, there was a noticeable difference in the pleasantness and the timbre of her sound. She felt more comfortable and more focused. I thought her overall performance was great! Always a pleasure to listen to Hannah!

Taylee Beckstead

Taylee’s breathing was quite good! I thought she understood her upcoming phrase and what she needed breath wise to accomplish the phrase. But at other times there was a bit of running out of air. There was a bit of upward motion when she took her breaths.  Meaning there was a tightening in the shoulder area, which caused a bit of tightening in her throat. For the most part I thought she was in tune. At times during the longer tones there tended to be a wavering in pitch, but that could possibly be from her vibrato. Easy Fix! I though her timbre was quite good, though at times it felt very nasally, and a little squeezed. I thought her diction was on point! Even though I don’t speak the language she was sing (French I think??) I felt lke I could understand all the words. I thought she could engage the words a little more with her face, than with her body, because there was a bit of wiggling when she started a new phrase. I felt her overall performance was very good and that she now has a refined model to go back home and practice. Cant wait to hear her again! Way to go Tayleeeeeeee !!!!!!!!

LaeKin Burgess

Heeeyyy LaeKin!!!! Always a pleasure to be transported into your world while you sing. You give me a sense of trust that you are singing something that you have been through in your personal life. So cuddos to your expressiveness!!!! Your breathing was very thoughtful and balloon like. There was moments of buckets breathing, but nothing very noticeable  The timbre of your voice was very rich and full, and deep. Intonation felt easy and something you knew, and not something you were still trying to figure out! Only thing, I had a hard time trying to figure out what you were saying. I think it was German! When Cindy instructed you to loosen your body to have your breathing happen instead of making it happen, there was a REMARKABLE difference in your sound’s depth and color! I thought your overall performance was wonderful and very strong. Your color was great and your thought process was visible, and I thoroughly enjoyed your performance!
