Jaron Putnam Practice Summary 9/10/2013
Today, after warming up I worked on "Two Happy Lovers" by Libby Larsen. This 21st Century Composition features semi atonal melodic content. I worked on learning the pitches, trying to follow a deep practice routine of practicing till I made a mistake, stopping when I did, and running that specific spot over and over at a slow tempo until I got it down. I also employed the steps of singing and was able to lip buzz the melody. This seemed a very effective way to learn the piece, but I felt tight today... Cindy helped me with that in my lesson though. I learned from that experience that I need to stop when I feel tightness and work on identifying it and trying to fix it right there rather than to just keep singing. She asked me a few questions that really made me aware as to what was causing me tightness for that day. Good practice.
