Jared Daley chapter 9 summary TC

Jared Daley chapter 9 summary TC

This was my favorite chapter by far because I found so many thing I want in my life and future in this chapter. Great teaching is a skill just like any other. It has to be practiced an developed. The teaching circuit blueprint is really just a combination of myelinated circuits. These have been developed and myelinated over many years of trial and error and deep practice. There are 4 virtues of teaching and creating this circuit blueprint. The first is the matrix. It's a vast grid of knowledge specific to a skill set and being able to creatively and effectively respond. It takes years of struggle and change. The second virtue is perceptiveness. The eyes should always be watching and gaining visual information about someone we are teaching. Everyone is different so their treatment should be different. The third virtue is the GPS reflex. You have to give specified instructions that are short, simple and urgent.  You must zap the students skill circuit. The 4th virtue is theatrical honesty. Drama and character are tools to reach a student. You must make real emotional connections.
Key concept: to be a master coach or teacher you must constantly be aware of how you are connecting with your students. You must also be flexible and adaptive and have an arsenal of ideas and tricks for each individual student.
Key terms: the matrix
Connection.just like the perfect master coaches took years of concentrated effective effort to be where they are, I too must put in the time and the effort.
