Emily F. VRH/masterclass 9/19

Emily F. VRH/masterclass 9/19
Luke Shepherd: The energy on the song was improved from Tuesday. Upper body stiffness was about the same. I still want more power and focus from your sound, even though it's a tender song. I noticed a stiff jaw particularly on "eh" vowels. It's a lovely piece, and you emote it well. The concept of using more of a "speaking" or "chest" voice definitely added color and strength to your sound. Also, using more focused vowels really improved the timbre.
Elizabeth Tait: What a challenging piece! Good job! Stance seemed a little weak--when you took the shoes off it helped. I was surprised at the focus and richness on your lower notes! I didn't know you had that in you, but I really liked it. Sometimes on your high notes I feel like there's an airiness or hollowness to the timbre. I wonder if there's a way to balance the colors/textures throughout the range. Eyebrows tend to direct the pitch, or maybe just mirror it. I can tell when a big leap or a high note is coming because your eyebrows go there. Diction was sometimes unclear. I liked the accent most of the time, but sometimes it seemed a little forced. I loved that "We can't micromanage our voices. The voice is a diva. Give it consistent and generous breath and vowels, and it'll behave."
