Emily F. TC Epilogue

Emily F. TC Epilogue summary: The diagram of the talent code on p. 205 is a great visual for how ignition, master coaching, and deep practice all work together to make talent. The beauty of myelin and skill is that anything can be practiced and improved upon. This goes for education, business, psychology, social skills, and raising kids, as well as any other skill one wants to build. This is hopeful! Another hopeful bit of information is that we can continue to myelinate skill for our whole lives, even if the speed is decreased as we get older.
Key Concept: We can build skill in anything we want, for the rest of our lives.
Key Terms: kaizen, social-fitness training, cognitive-behavioral therapy, cognitive reserve
Making Connections: A lot of times I feel discouraged, being older than most of the students here. This book has helped me realize that while I may have to work harder to build skill than all the twenty year-olds, I still have the ability. My challenge is being able to maintain the spark of motivation and ignition when I am discouraged. Also, I have to be willing to put in the effort required to deep practice the skills I want to have.
