B: Sustain the breath a little more, keep the energy that you have at the beginning of phrases going to the very end.
I: Sustaining the breath through the phrase will help you to hit each pitch a little more directly and with purpose.
T: As I said before, you have a wonderfully deep voice that is very expressive.
D: I couldn’t figure out which language you were singing in at first. You were singing in Czech! That is awesome! That should have been my first guess.
E: You could show a little more emotion. That will come with memorization. I could tell you were trying at a few things, just make them a little clearer to the audience. Did your mother teach you to sing?
Your neck and arms seem a little stiff, relax. Put that energy into the breath and, subsequently, your phrases. You could also activate your eyes a little more. Think “Happy Surprise”. It is hard with slow, quiet songs because you don’t want to be too robust. However, if you maintain the same energy in the breath as you do with more upbeat songs you will be more successful in performance.
M: Keep working on putting more movement into your phrases. It really did help and I think you could go a lot further with it then you did today in front of everybody.
O: This was a nice performance. I can tell you really work hard. Keep up the good work!

B: Breaths are good balloon breaths but I think that you are trying too hard to control the breath. I was just working on this with Cindy in my lesson today. You want to be singing before you finish breathing in. she related it to trading hands on a rope while rock climbing, you don’t let go until you know that your other hand will take your weight in its stead. Don’t force the air out in order to carry the sound, but think about how you talk when you are yawning. You don’t feel a lot of air going in or out. It is suspended and that is the feeling that you are striving for, in order to have a natural air flow that will support each phrase you sing. Yes, you have to have balloon breaths but you also have to not force the air to stay or go, that puts strain on the voice.

I: High notes not quite high enough. You’re trying to lift one side of a scale without putting in the weight on the other side.
T: Your voice is very vibrant.
D: Great placement.
E: You had great focus and I felt like you were really talking to and connecting to something. That was really great.
M: Cindy helped you visualize the struggle and energy that needs to be present every time that you sing. Keeping in mind the end of phrases and keeping the energy constant throughout the phrase really helps to make everything flow so much more. All of the sudden you weren’t reaching for those high notes anymore and they were hit dead on. Getting and keeping that energy is a tricky thing but as you practice it, strange as it seems… you’ll be famous, you’ll be a big success, you’ll become a star.
O: This was a very solid performance. I always love to watch your performances as well as listen. You are a true performer. You’re a 100% kinda guy. You put your whole self into things and I really appreciate that.
