Recital Hour- Brooke's critiques
Emily Floyd- He breathing for the acceding notes was very supportive when she descended her support weakened. He low notes though was really good once she got to them, especially on the vowel “E” Some of her “U” vowels need that same tone that she gave to the e vowel. Her timbre I would call mature and I could understand her word well. The song called for a serene expression but I think she could have used a bit more variety in her expression. Overall her performance was quite enjoyable and I love that song. He high notes when well supportive were beautiful.
Amber- Her breathing was balloon like for the majority of the performance. Her intonation was on and I would call her voice bright and maybe a bit scratchy. From what I can tell her diction was good. On the Vowel “E” her high notes were beautiful. On her “a” vowel I felt as though he connection with her diaphragm was no longer there. Overall it was a bit distracting to have her stop and start a bunch but she has a pleasant voice.
Amber the younger- Her breath came from her stomach. At times her intonation was a bit flat. I noticed that her voice would go flat with her mouth was wide and not elongated Her voice is light and smooth and her diction was well done. Expression could give me a little more but she did a very fine job. She has a very pretty voice and I enjoyed listening to her.
Michael Lechner- He is a little bit of a bucket breather. When he would breath correctly it was fun to see the difference of his tone. While his intonation was not always on it was correct for the majority of the song. His timbre could be described as dark and nasally his diction was good . I just felt that if her opened his mouth more then we could understand him even more. I enjoyed his performance.
Jared Dayley- Wow what to say about Jared. It was hard for me to even critique Jared because his performance sucked me in. His breathing was from his core intonation was dead on and I would call his voice very mature and open. I understood every word. If I was really picky then I would critique is expression just a little. While the majority of the time he was in character I could always tell when a hard part was coming up because for about a second his face would change to a worried expression and the flash back to his character. I was very impressed with his performance.
Sara Gee- Her breathing was good, as well as her intonation besides the first notes which I attribute to nerves. Her voice is soft and has a beautiful ring to it. Her high voice and low voice are good but connecting them on the acceding and descending notes could be stronger. She didn't really have expression. It seemed to me she just wanted to get through the song without any mistakes. I really do like her tone of her voice. Her performance didn't draw me in but it was good.
Jordan Davis- Needs more support but she was breathing from her stomach. I think she may be expelling her breath at the beginning more than she needs to. It was a bit pitchy but mostly spot on. I would call her voice bright and her diction and expression was very good. If she could bring the corners of her mouth together I think she could have a better sound.
Aubrianne- Breathing was pretty good, her intonation was good. I would call her voice breathy and sultry. I could understand everything she said and her expression and actions made me believe her performance. Her voice on cry was beautiful and if she could bring that same sound to her other high notes her performance could be even better. Overall I really enjoyed it.
At this point I had to leave because I had an interview.
Hi Brooke. Not sure what you mean when you say, "Her connection with her diaphragm was no longer there>" Good catch in Jared's performance, seeing the worry. Jordan Davis was the HE who sang, I hate music by Bernstein.
