Sarah Brenay - McCoy - Ch. 3

What are the two fundamental types of resonance that occur in the human body?
Forced resonance (conductive resonance), and free resonance (sympathetic resonance).
Why are the chest and head not good resonators for the projection of sound?
Because the organs and fatty tissues muffle the sound and do not project it to the listeners. The singer may be able to sense or hear it, but not the audience.
What are four traits common to all musical instruments, including the voice?
Resonator, Vibrator, Power source, and Articulator.
Why is the vocal tract considered to be a quarter wave resonator?
Because the vocal tract is a tubular structure that can be opened or closed. Those wavelengths that are one quarter of the length of the vocal tract are the first to be resonated.
What is the relationship between the harmonic series and the resonance series of a quarter wave system?
No idea.
Define musical resonance:
The amplification and enrichment of a musical tone by supplementary vibration.
What anatomical structures function as resonators in the human voice?
The laryngopharynx, oropharynx, nasopharynx, trachea, oral cavity, and nasal cavity.
