Sam Meredith Rob O Lesson plan for Jan. 28

This will be my second lesson with Rob. Last time when he sang he had some trouble with being mentally and physically prepared to sing higher notes. So, my goals for today are first to help him start learning proper breathing and posture and give him a few vocalizes that he can use to exercise his upper register without putting any strain on himself, so that he can get used to singing up there and be able to add a little more weight to his voice later. To help him learn posture I'm going to ask him to assume the position that he would assume if he were about to sing. He may already be doing some thing right and so I only want to add to those. I'm going to then ask myself questions regarding his posture. I'll ask myself if it's open if it is released but not relaxed and whether or not the placement of his head is appropriate. A few vocalizes that I have planned that will exercise the upper register are downward sighs, having him say the word "what" with an upward inflection as if something was shocking to him, having him make a ghost-like noise with varying contour, and also having him sing descending arpeggios starting in falsetto and changing to full voice on the last note. I think this last vocalize will help him approach high notes in a way that is comfortable first. I think I might switch the patter to a descending five-tone scale. All of this is a part of his long-term goal to gain more confidence as a singer.
