LaeKin Burgess-MayeRee B. Lesson report #2 for 1/30

MayeRee Lesson Report 1/30

We started with descending hums beginning on c5 and descending in a five note scale. We moved around randomly. Then we did lip trills up and down on the same five note scales. My objective in doing these is to get her voice warmed up and working easily. Then we started some 1-3-5 then slide down on ha-ha-hi. I asked her to think about keeping her larynx in the same low, relaxed position for all of the pitches. Specifically I asked her to pay attention that her larynx didn't reach up for the top of the scale. We did a couple more and the action got worse so I told her to forget about it because it was just an experiment and it didn't work that it was better the first time. Then we did full scales on "thi" and I asked her to specifically be lighter on top and get heavier down at the bottom. I did this because I'm noticing her pushing a lot on the upper register so I'm trying to get a lighter feeling associated with this. I had her try this same exercise on "bi" and asked her to specifically think about letting her drop and be really relaxed. I used this and worked into the higher regions of her range. This worked alright and was getting better. Then I asked her to slide down the octave on [u]. I had trouble getting her to make a smooth connection and keep her larynx low. I asked her to practice this this week and keep it really light. We'll see how she does on this next lesson.
