LaeKin Burgess Lesson Summary 1/27

We always start with the same vocalises in my lesson. Lip trills on 5 note scales and then full scales followed by the same thing on [thi]. It seems redundant, but these things are working well for me and I think the consistency of pattern is actually helping me compare past experiences with current and helping me learn from them. I'm starting to feel the difference between grab and release on a more minute level. Following these exercises we can do anything and this week we did descending sighs. We did a squeeze everything, then RELEASE on a downward sigh. After vocalises we worked on O had I Jubal's Lyre. I was having a hard time releasing and my chest  and neck were really tight that day so we tried singing on the floor (which helped get my air going lower), hula-ing which didn't really work, and finally, I leaned over like a rag-doll and stood by Brianna.  While I sung the phrase Brianna shook my head and good sounds started coming out. After a few times doing this I realized that I could get the same result moving my own head.  I finally started getting the depth of sound Brianna wanted to hear. From this lesson my goals were to try to use that same rag-doll head shaking method to release my singing. That doesn't always happen, sometimes it is a long process just to get to that point, but I'm still learning. Most importantly, my goal is to find release in my body for all of my songs.
