Caitlin Craig Masterclass December 3, 2013

Jake Spjute: Overall it was a better performance from last week.  There seemed to still be some tension in the tongue or back of the neck, sometimes when his vibrato would set it, you could see his head nodding.  I would like to hear the pitch falling from above rather than reaching up to the notes.  Cindy worked with him on feeling the sound higher, and opening the space between the back molars rather than opening the front of his mouth. The timbre sounded much freer and simple. Cindy also helped him associated his voice with the sigh.  I was able to connect better to his intent and expression when he channeled the sigh and primal sound.

Taylee Beckstead: Cindy worked on her introduction to make it seem more inviting and warm, because this is what sets the tone for the audience.  I sensed that she needed more free-flowing air. Expression towards the end seemed more sincere than it did in the beginning.  Cindy tried some exercises to distract Taylee from engaging extraneous body movement.  The idea was to engage her body in a way that feels natural, but not with a "weird-twitchy-body".  The sound was much more focused and free. Have we sung it in a way that our body can be at ease, or have we sung it just to see if we can sing the notes?  Engage alternate activities and postures while practicing.

Laura Berg: The timbre sounded free.  I think there could be a little more body engagement to aid her in her free-flowing air though.  She did seem to turn during her performance as if she was scanning the audience. Cindy worked with her on making her focus meaningful with thought behind it.
