Amber O.B. Chapter 15

Chapter 15 Physical Facts
Mechanics of sound
sound is energy transmitted through, well, everything..... air, water, even cement ..... and ti qualify “sound” it must have  a receptor, or a witness if you will. I add my own age old question:

If a man speaks in the forest ans his wife isn't there to hear him, is he still wrong?
(I KNOW you're reading this Justin!)

Seriously though, to exist; sound needs to be received. It can also travel a very long way.

Frequency and pitch
What is pitch ti us, is sound waves or cycles per second notated as Hz to a physics geek.
For example concert A= 440 Hz. The fun bit in this section is that the higher the note the better it carries. Yeah! Soprano power! We... the few... the squeaky!!!!!...
(ahem!) But, I digress.....

Bernoulli Effect
Thus pretty much sums it up, “moving air has less pressure than stationary air.”

Intensity and loudness
Intensity, measured in decibels, “is the amount of energy or power per second per square centimeter of a sound wave”. This decreases as distance traveled  increases. Another fun fact; if the sound is made by twice the amount of resonators, it does not double. It only grows by a factor of 1.5.
Therefore, a soloist singing higher, or possessing more ring in his or her voice will carry over a choir easily.

Venturi Effect
The smaller the opening, the greater the pressure.

Wave form quality
You can't control this people, but knowing about it may help. A sound wave may be at a certain pitch or cycles per second, but the shape of it can vary greatly and therefore effect the timbre of the sound.

Resonance
Supplementary vibration in an object to picks up sound waves from a source of stimulous.

Time
Time, signature, time value, and tempo mean something to musicians. Apparently, nobody else cares.

Beat phenomenon
Wavelengths from two different pitches can either strengthen or weaken each other.

I think all the key words and concepts are all pretty much above.

Connection: I have had a few classes in this before, however I have no memory of experience the beat phenomenon. I'd really like to know what that's like first hand.
