Discuss the week & Stretch
I want to know if Sam has been applying the new warm ups I taught him throughout the week. If not, I want to know why. If he has any questions this is the time to ask them. I think I will need to stress the importance of warming up in the mornings so that his voice is ready for the stress of the day, because I don't think we discussed it last time.
Singing Basics
Today we will discuss posture in more detail. I feel like this is really where it all starts. Without aligned, released posture, we cannot have deep breath, and without breath we cannot have focused, clean phonation. I was thinking about walking him through good posture step by step, but I think I'll experiment with a "Inner Game of Tennis" move and model it for him and see if he can imitate me back properly. Then I will fix as needed. I'll probably show him the toaster move and the string on top of the head thing. Then I'll show him how his breathing changes as his posture changes. I might also show him the squatting breath if I think he's ready to move on to breathing in the back. But I might save that for next time.
Warm up
I want to explore Sam's range today and work on some vowels.
-We will start easy with a yawn exercise or a chewy exercise.
-Then we will do "Wow!" which Cindy demonstrated in class. I don't know how it will work for a man, but we'll find out!
-[u----o] ascending octave.
-Then we'll try some [ni ne na no nu] or some "show me" or some "how are you?" I'm not sure what to try yet! Gotta wing it a little bit. But I'll try to improvise and figure out what he needs.
Repertoire
We'll select some repertoire from what I've brought for him.
