Sarah Boucher Lesson Summary 2/10

Vocalizations: Laid on my back on the medicine ball and stretched my lower back out while lip buzzing and hissing. Lip buzz 5432123454321, Primal ah to a descending 5 ah,  onset five ah's, breath in and sing oo on descending 5 pattern, sets of three staccato/legato, A to o slide, A to e slide
Helpful Vocalizations: The a to o slide was very helpful opened me up, got me to connect to my breath and be more free.
Music Worked on: Joy, 14 G and Jota
Take aways: Releasing my jaw, is uber important. I was singing Joy and it felt so yucky but as soon as Laurie talked a bit about releasing the jaw, it felt free relaxed and fun to sing! Also speaking my text as poetry really helps me! I was amazed that after Laurie made me speak the poetry and really put emotion into it, it was so much easier to sing!
Impact on weekly practice: Laurie gave me lots of ways to practice 14 G. Primal sounds will be particularly important on the low sections and the crazy runs. She encouraged me to just primal uh through the sections as I play them and then eventually actually sing it. I need to do a lot of "dumb jaw" speaking on my pieces because I am clamping down a bit on all of them. I also need to go through my pieces and really figure out when I need to use my jaw and when I don't.
Goals for next week: Memorize two more pieces and focus on releasing the jaw!
