- In this performance the timbre was a little breathy, especially in the upper register. I would also like to hear some more healthy vibrato. Her breaths were also very audible and not technically correct.
- This was caused chiefly by her posture. Her shoulders are rolled forward, which is closing off her chest and making it hard for her to get a good breath.
- If I were the teacher I would have her do a few things to correct her posture. I would have her do the toaster stretch to correct the position of the shoulders and I would also suggest practicing the song in an alternative position, such as lying on her back.
- I think overall it was a decent performance, but there are some things that need to be improved. There were some diction problems that I noticed. There was one word near the end that sounded like a pretty american diphthong. She could also stand to interpret the song a little better. I didn't really see much emotion in her face during the whole performance.
Video #2
- The singer's voice in this performance sounds really constricted and pinched. There isn't much vibrato at all and it looks like his shoulders and neck are really tense.
- I think the overriding sense of tension in the performance is caused by overly rigid posture. His shoulder and neck were really tense, and his shoulders were involved in every breath he took.
- If I were the teacher I would have this student practice the song using an alternative posture that would free his shoulders. One possibility would be to use the 'rag doll' position where he is bent over with his knees bent, letting his torso hang freely.
- I couldn't really distinguish any of the words he was singing. Part of that is definitely a result of the space, but he definitely needs to do more to sing intelligibly. Also, I didn't like the weird sweeping arm movement that was prevalent in the performance.
