Emily Floyd:
B:
I: fell into pitch well
T: First and last high spot were very resonant! Beginning sounded hallow, squeezing on some high notes.
D: The words seemed to blend together sometimes which isn't optimal in German. Good vowels
E: knows meaning well, but expression of meaning was too subtle.
O: I loved your announcement of the piece. It was clear and collected. One of the best performances I've heard from you.
Amber Denslow:
B: Audible on quick breaths, but were more calm on longer rests.
I: Tended to waver on finding the solid pitch
T: wasn't released and that directly affected vibrato. Sometimes nasally
D: Seemed to have had a long time with song, so knew words very well and foreign language didn't seem to bother you. Sometimes let the vowels dictate pitch.
E: Obviously had motive, but it was unclear what it was to audience.
O: Seemed distracted, and wasn't able to connect with the song on a convincing level. Had the right intentions but was just off a bit.
Amber Farrow:
B: Bucket
I: Got better towards end, but tended to be flat, especially on large leaps
T: forced, resonated in throat more
D: lost the ends of words
E: could tell the song meant something to you, but didn't allow it to fuel the song. Very emotional song and it felt restrained. Even on the speaking part, it was rushed and shy.
O: I believed that the song really hit home personally but she seemed unwilling to let it show.
Michail Lechner:
B: seemed controlled, in a restricted way
I: forcing body to hit right pitch instead of trusting body.
T: rich lower notes, tense over all.
D: lost consonants
E: what's the motive? Seemed mechanical.
O: let vibrato happen, don't make it. Great potential but it didn't seem sincere.
Jared Daley:
B:
I: Spot on!
T: great on word moment when you held out "ment" part. Full and focused.
D: got all the words, but almost always lingered on "l" sound.
E: Voice held great emotion, but face and especially eyes seemed stiff. Wanted to see it spilling from you face just like it was from your words.
O: Good switch to character and thought after name introduction. Finish intro all the way. Died out when you were talking about accompanist. Great confidence! Very convincing.
Sarah Gee:
B: heard squeezing at end of phrases, but wasn't always able to see it
I: Good
T: Nice high resonance. needed more confidence.
D: couldn't make out the words. Not enough consonants. Words just melted together.
E: What was motive?
O: started song with "deer-in-the-headlights" look. Also, left hand was doing weird things. Has a very clear tone though! Just needs to believe in herself!
Jordan Davis:
B: stayed silent throughout song
I: didn't have a good tonal center. wandered a lot to find right pitch.
T: Full, round. Didn't have same timber across the whole range. Was able to tell when he switched ranges.
D: needed more dental consonants.
E: relied heavily on poetry to convey the comedy, without contributing to the emotion. Face didn't match words.
O: didn't sell the song. He knew the words were funny, so he was smiling, but it didn't help the audience believe it. It would be helpful to break up song into chunks to really nail the pitches.
Aubrianne Dunn:
B: restricted, shallow
I: when reaching for higher pitches, it wasn't fully flat but it wasn't on the pitch center
T: A little thin (possibly from tension). Tried to manipulate mouth shape for volume ( ex. on first word "now") really good resonance on word "you" and similar vowels.
D: beginnings/endings of words needed consonants.
E: had the right idea in mind, but it wasn't convincing
O: The song needed an extreme in the emotions that varied; devastated, angry, sassy, annoyed, etc.
Emily Hess:
B: bucket. but seemed to budget well
I:good
T: forward and clear on bright "a" ("rain", "grey").
D: Great! added extra sounds here and there like an "h" on word "only".
E: eyes very expressive
O a little fidgety in that the movements didn't always compliment song, and were sometimes distracting. needed to pull bangs out of face, so people could see how engaging they were.
Kayelee Farris:
B: anxious
I:
T: got better as song progressed, became more full. swallowed sound in beginning.
D: I know the words so I wasn't able to give an honest judgement.....
E: needed to take more time, didn't allow for thoughts to finish.
O: piano got a whole measure ahead and one point and she still stayed in control! Great! Seemed to be trying to be too careful. Needed to settle with the song, seemed too fast.
