Sarah Boucher Chapter 4 Summary: TC

Sarah Boucher Chapter 4 TC
Chapter Summary: Deep practice consists of 3 elements: chunking, repetition and being aware. Chunking begins with absorbing the whole thing and then seeking out the mistakes, breaking the rough patches into small groups and repeating them slowly. Repetition is key because the more you fire certain circuits the more myelin you build and the more skill you gain. Being aware of when you are in the sweet spot and what it feels like are also crucial to deep practice.
Key Points:
Chunking, repetition, and being aware are essential to effective deep practice.
It is essential for growth to be enthusiastic about making mistakes.
Practice is learning how to concentrate.
Key Terms:
Holy Shit Effect
Chunking
Making Connections: This chapter made me really reflect on my practice habits, good and bad. I have made a goal to especially focus on chunking. Often I get annoyed when I have to do a small section over and over, but this chapter opened my eyes to why chunking is important!
