Jake tc chapter 8

Great coaches are usually not those that give inspiring speeches or lofty metaphors, the best teachers are the ones that can identify specifically what each of their students need at a highly specified individual level. With Jenson, he had a great talent for being able to perceive exactly what each of his students needed in order to help them improve dramatically in even one lesson. Coach Wooden was a coach who gave highly specific, but short instructions. Usually no more than 20 seconds if that. He knew how to explain what he wanted and how he wanted it, and what he DIDN'T want, with very few words. His style was almost purely informational.
Miss Mary was a coach who would fuel her students with love and understanding, and pure devotion to the improvement of her students. She ignited her students by teaching love, but also being highly specific in direction and correction.
Key terms: teaching love
Concept: the best coach will be highly specific, and will change their style of teaching to be able to help an individual student.
Connection: the best coach will not always give you praise, but they will help you in an individualized way to help you achieve the highest level of success that you desire. I will try to listen much more than I talk.
