Brooke Ch. 3

Brooke Summary ch. 3- Looking back at our history we can see that there are times that seem to produce more “geniuses” than other periods in the day. Well the reason for this comes in the form of practice. Looking at Florence, we see that it produced many great people in a small amount of time. The culture there shows that at the age of 7 children we apprenticed out to places their parents chose for them, a blacksmith, artist, performer. These children studied under the masters of the field and were able to do the work instead of just learn about the work. It gave them the opportunity to make mistakes and then fix that mistake. Or in other words it gave their brains the opportunity to build up and produce more myelin.

Key Concept- We are myelin beings, if we can learn how to use it we will become great.

Key Terms- myelin, nature/nurture

Making connections- The more I learn about myelin the more I realize how much time I have been wasting in the practice room. I don’t like to struggle and because of this is make an effort to avoid those things I struggle with. Well I realize now how big a mistake that is. I have robbed my mind of skills I could have learned and built up. I will definitely make a change.
